Most of us have spent years in meetings, workshops, and conversations that follow the same pattern. One person presents. A few people respond. The rest observes. Decisions happen somewhere between the lines. Everyone moves on.
Liberating Structures offer a completely different experience. They’re a collection of 33+ interaction patterns that distribute participation across the whole group. Every person thinks, contributes, and shapes what happens next. Not in theory, but in practice, through the design of the interaction itself.
An immersion workshop is the fastest way to learn them. Over two days, you’ll cycle through 20+ structures in rapid succession. Each one is introduced briefly, practiced immediately, and reflected on together. By the second day, you’ll find yourself designing your own “strings” and crafting invitations for your own situation. That’s the point. These methods are designed to be used by everyone, regardless of experience.
The workshop is designed as a progression. Day one builds your vocabulary. Day two builds your fluency.
You’ll move through 10 to 12 different structures at a brisk pace. Some take ten minutes, others take thirty to fourty. Each one shows a different way to organize how people interact: how they generate ideas, surface tensions, make sense of complexity, or decide together.
Between structures, we pause to reflect. What just happened in the room? How did the design shape the conversation? What felt different from how you normally work? These reflections are as valuable as the practice itself.
By the end of day one, you’ll have experienced more variety in interaction design than most people encounter in a year.
Day two goes deeper. You’ll learn how to combine structures into sequences (called “strings”) designed for specific purposes: running a strategy session, facilitating a retrospective, making a difficult decision with a large group, onboarding new team members.
You’ll design your own strings for challenges you’re actually facing, get feedback from the group, and practice facilitating. Something shifts on the second day. The trust in the room deepens. People take creative risks. The group starts to surprise itself.
You’ll also explore the principles underneath the structures: the five design elements that make every structure work, and how to adapt them to your own context.
" Learning Liberating Structures is like learning a new language. First you learn individual words. Then you put them together into sentences. Soon you're speaking fluently." — Keith McCandless & Henri Lipmanowicz, creators of Liberating Structures
Immersion workshops attract a wonderfully diverse mix of people. What they share is a desire to change how groups work together. Some typical profiles:
No prior experience with Liberating Structures is needed. Complete beginners and seasoned practitioners learn alongside each other. That mix is part of what makes the experience so rich.
This workshop is designed so that everything you learn is immediately usable.

All (44!) structures in a practical workbook. 20+ practiced, reflected on, and ready to use. You'll know when to reach for 1-2-4-All, when TRIZ is the right provocation, and when Troika Consulting will do more than any advice session ever could.

You'll understand how to string structures together for different purposes. A team retrospective, a strategy conversation, a community gathering. The design skills transfer to any context.

By the end of day two, you will have practiced so many structures, you'll know when and how to run them. And a great BONUS: Immersion workshops bring together people from different sectors and backgrounds. The connections you make here often last well beyond the two days.

About a month after the workshop, we'll meet online for a 2-hour follow-up. A chance to share how you've been applying what you learned, ask questions, and get input from the group. You'll also experience how well Liberating Structures work in a virtual setting.

No. The workshop is designed for both newcomers and experienced practitioners. You learn by doing, so the structures teach themselves. People who have used LS before consistently say they discover new depth in structures they thought they already knew.
An in-company workshop is tailored to one team or organization, using their specific challenges. This open workshop brings together people from different organizations, sectors, and roles. The diversity makes the experience especially generative: you’ll hear perspectives you’d never encounter in your own workplace.
